BROEDPLAATS LAB111 PRESENTS WITTE FLITS + Q&A
With our returning series Broedplaats LAB111 Presents, we’re giving a platform and well-deserved spotlight to the filmmakers residing in the artist studios in our monumental building. We’re overjoyed to have the heartbreaking debut feature by director Laura Hermanides, Witte Flits, return for one more special screening. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Hermanides and actor Raymond Thiry, moderated by director Sacha Polak.
What do you do when your son no longer wants to live? In White Flash, 42-year-old Rick (Sanne den Hartogh) has been struggling with severe psychological problems for over 20 years. After an intensive, years-long process, he receives permission for euthanasia due to unbearable and hopeless suffering. His parents Aagje (Renée Soutendijk) and Toon (Raymond Thiry) are now faced with the task of letting go of him for good. Is their love strong enough to support Rick in his deep desire for a dignified end? Director Laura Hermanides was deeply touched in 2013 by two parents who had lovingly supported their son in his struggle for euthanasia due to unbearable psychological suffering. Years of contact with these parents and others closely involved eventually led to her debut film White Flash, which opens the Dutch Film Festival on 20 September.
