MASTER OF LIGHT: ROBBY MÜLLER
To coincide with the re-release of Paris, Texas and our Wim Wenders retrospective Drifters And Dreamers, we are proud to present a selection honoring the legendary Dutch cinematographer Robby Müller. A visionary behind the camera, Müller is renowned for his poetic use of natural light and shadow, earning him the title of “painter with light.” His work shaped the visual style of iconic films, blending realism with stunning aesthetic beauty.
Born in the Netherlands, Müller collaborated with directors such as Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmusch, and Lars von Trier, creating unforgettable images that defined independent cinema. This selection features, alongside various Wenders-directed classics, some of his most influential works, including the hypnotic Western Dead Man, the gritty noir of Down by Law, and the philosophical hitman tale Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. We also showcase his stunning collaborations with Lars von Trier in Dancer in the Dark and Breaking the Waves, where his camera work brought raw emotional intensity to the screen.
Additionally, we will screen the documentary Living the Light, a tribute to Müller’s life and career, offering an intimate look at the artist behind the lens.
