Directed by cult legend Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Frankenhooker), Brain Damage is a delirious mix of splatter horror, pitch-black comedy, and underground filmmaking. Beneath the rubbery gore and outrageous effects lies a not-so-subtle metaphor about addiction, control, and losing yourself to something that feels good but ruins everything around you.
The film is infamous for its surreal tone, quotable dialogue, and grotesque practical effects. Especially Aylmer himself, one of the most memorable monster creations of the VHS era. Brain Damage is funny, disturbing, oddly touching, and completely unhinged.
