DIASPORA DIARIES
We have always strived to be a place where people from many backgrounds can come together through a shared love of cinema. In our programs, films from around the world are shown side by side, always with English subtitles, so that stories can travel freely and be experienced collectively on the big screen. It is in this spirit of openness, curiosity, and care that we present Diaspora Diaries, a carefully curated season taking place from January until the end of March.
As one of the most multicultural cities in the world, Amsterdam is shaped by the presence of countless diasporas, each carrying its own histories, languages, and ways of belonging. These communities hold stories of movement and settlement, of leaving and arriving, and of growing up between cultures.
Diaspora Diaries brings together films that explore the emotional, physical, and mental journeys of people navigating life away from an original homeland. Often drawing from semi-autobiographical perspectives, these works reflect the experiences of first- and second-generation diasporic filmmakers whose identities are shaped by both inherited and newly formed cultures. Across the program, questions of belonging, identity, and home recur, not as fixed destinations, but as ongoing, deeply human processes.
Please note that additional dates and screening times will be announced in the coming months.
