The Motorcycle Diaries

In 1952 trokken twee jonge Argentijnen, Ernesto Guevara en Alberto Granado, samen op reis door Latijns-Amerika om de échte wereld buiten Buenos Aires te verkennen. Ernesto is een 23-jarige student geneeskunde die gespecialiseerd is in lepra-onderzoek en op het punt staat zijn diploma te halen; Alberto is 29 en werkt als biochemicus in een kliniek. In 1952, two young Argentines, Ernesto Guevara and Alberto Granado, traveled together through Latin America to explore the real world outside Buenos Aires. Ernesto is a 23-year-old medical student who specializes in leprosy research and is about to get his degree; Alberto is 29 and works as a biochemist in a clinic. The film chronicles not only the adventures of the adventurous duo, but also their confrontation with the injustices of an unrelenting class system. With their pronounced thirst for adventure, the friends begin their perilous journey on an old tattered 1939 Norton 500. Although the old engine fails after only a few months, they decide to move on with whatever resources they can find along the way. As their journey progresses, they are increasingly confronted with changing geographical as well as social and cultural influences that leave a deep impression on them. When they finally end up in a leprosy community in the Peruvian Amazon, a process of awareness is triggered in both men that will determine their later political and social ambitions. Inspired by the diaries of both Alberto Granado and the man who would later become known as, (The Motorcycle Diaries) is first and foremost a search for the inner self and for the origins of a revolutionary spirit.
