Spoorloos (4K Restoration)

Op vakantie in Frankrijk verliest Rex zijn vrouw even uit het oog. Bij een benzinestation gaat zij wat inkopen doen, waarna hij haar niet meer terug kan vinden. Jarenlang blijft haar vriend wanhopig op zoek naar haar. Dit trekt de aandacht van de moordenaar van zijn verdwenen vriendin. Haar ontvoerder doet een aanbod: als hij echt wil weten wat er met zijn vrouw is gebeurd, zal hij hetzelfde huiveringwekkende lot moeten ondergaan. Wat volgt is een onvervalst machtsspel.
Spoorloos was Sluizers grote doorbraak. De roem van deze film reikte tot in Amerika, waar hij door critici als ‘Hitchcock-waardig’ werd beschouwd. Vier jaar later mocht hij er de remake The Vanishing (1993) maken. In Hollywood maakte Sluizer nog de thriller Crimetime (1996).

On holiday in France, Rex briefly loses sight of his wife. She goes to do some shopping at a petrol station, after which he cannot find her again. For years, her boyfriend remains desperate to find her. This attracts the attention of his missing girlfriend’s killer. Her captor makes an offer: if he really wants to know what happened to his wife, he will have to suffer the same chilling fate. What follows is an unadulterated power play.

Spoorloos was Sluizer’s big breakthrough. Its fame reached America, where critics considered it ‘Hitchcock-worthy’. Four years later, he was allowed to make the remake The Vanishing (1993) there. In Hollywood, Sluizer made another thriller Crimetime (1996).
