THE MORE THE MERRIER:
MOVING BEYOND MONOGAMY
Starting on Valentine’s Day we will explore sexual and romantic relations beyond monogamy through the medium of cinema with a stimulating selection of six feature films that challenge traditional perspectives on love. Over a period of two months we will present fresh insights to challenge and celebrate modern love with films, talks and more.
As Hollywood tries to keep the monogamous fairytale alive, we’ve decided to screen the films that move away from the classic ideas on intimacy. The More The Merrier is a program that touches upon alternate forms of love expression, that are perhaps more fitting to modern views on romance. 40% of marriages end up in divorce, less and less millennials identify as straight, and more and more couples open up their romantic relationships to explore the realms of non-monogamy and polyamory.
Should we define polyamory as sexual orientation? Or is non-monogamy part of a larger generational re-evaluation of prevailing norms? Does this differ from the boomer’s sexual revolution of the sixties and seventies?
With Shortbus we explore the boundaries of sexual freedom. Romantic possibilities are challenged through different takes on triangular love in Jules et Jim, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Dreamers and Les Amours Imaginaires. And Her questions definitions of fidelity in times of artificial intelligence.
