In een bijna-perfecte samenleving waar burgers papieren zakken op hun hoofd dragen om gelijk te lijken ontketent een verveelde kantoormedewerker per ongeluk een revolutie wanneer geruchten over een land zonder zakken de kop opsteken. Deze sci-fi-animatie weerspiegelt de thema’s van George Orwells 1984 en creëert een neo-noir sfeer door een combinatie 3D en 2D.
Schirkoa toont hoe animatie kan worden ingezet om complexe,volwassen verhalen te vertellen. De film schetst een dystopische wereld waarin conformiteit wordt afgedwongen door zelfexpressie aan banden te leggen en geeft hiermee een metaforische reactie op het huidige politieke klimaat en de bijbehorende zorgen over privacy, censuur en overheidsbemoeienis. Geïnspireerd op George Orwells 1984 en het werk van Kafka, Fellini of Jodorowsky, legt Schirkoa de gevaren bloot van ongecontroleerde overheidscontrole en de onderdrukking van andersdenkenden. Wat de film verder zo bijzonder maakt is de unieke neo-noir-stijl en de all-star stemmencast, met onder andere Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Argento, Lav Diaz en Gaspar Noé.
In the near-perfect society, citizens wear paper bags on their heads to appear equal. A bored office worker inadvertently ignites a revolution when the rumours of a land without the bags spread. This sci-fi animation combines 3D and 2D to create a noirish atmosphere, echoing the themes of George Orwell’s 1984.
