In Bird de nieuwe film van Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey), maakt nieuwkomer Nykika Adams grote indruk als Bailey, naast Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inishirin) en Franz Rogowski (Passages). De film schetst een portret van het leven aan de buitenranden van de Britse samenleving, waarin een familie ondanks de omstandigheden voor elkaar door het vuur gaat. Arnold’s empathie en vermogen om schoonheid te vinden in moeilijke omstandigheden geven de film vleugels. De 12-jarige Bailey (Nykika Adams) woont bij haar vader Bug (Barry Keoghan) in een kraakpand in het noorden van Kent. Bug heeft weinig tijd voor haar, want hij gaat binnenkort trouwen en heeft een fantastisch idee om snel geld te verdienen. Om de chaos thuis te ontsnappen, is Bailey veel alleen op pad – het liefst buiten in de natuur. Dan ontmoet ze plots de excentrieke en eigenzinnige Bird (Franz Rogowski), die op zoek is naar zijn geboortehuis in de buurt. Nieuwsgierig maar voorzichtig besluit Bailey hem te helpen. The film paints a portrait of life on the outer edges of British society, in which a family goes through fire for each other despite the circumstances. Arnold’s empathy and ability to find beauty in difficult circumstances give the film wings. Twelve-year-old Bailey (Nykika Adams) lives with her father Bug (Barry Keoghan) in a squat in north Kent. Bug has little time for her, as he is getting married soon and has a great idea for making quick money. To escape the chaos at home, Bailey is out and about alone a lot – preferably outdoors in nature. Then she suddenly meets the eccentric and quirky Bird (Franz Rogowski), who is looking for his birthplace nearby. Curious but cautious, Bailey decides to help him.
