Pride Perspectives

In honor of this year’s edition of Queer Pride Amsterdam, our recurring series Pride Perspectives returns! We invite you all to our cinematic exploration of the various notions of queerness, community, chosen family, and love.

Greek Weird Wave: The Films Of Yorgos Lanthimos

Known for his distinctly absurdist features, walking the tightrope between psychological thriller and pitch-black comedy, Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos burst onto the international arthouse scene in 2003. With the re-release of his festival hit Dogtooth and the new film Kinds Of Kindness, our Greek Weird Wave selection returns to our cinema.

The Sidney Lumet Selection

To celebrate 100 years since the birth of legendary director Sidney Lumet, his iconic and sadly still incredibly topical comedy-drama film Network, about a fictional television network, UBS, and its struggle with poor ratings, returns to our cinema from June 27th onwards. We’ve also added two other masterpieces by Lumet to our program: Dog Day Afternoon and 12 Angry Men.

Previously Unreleased: Showing Up

A sculptor preparing to open a new show must balance her creative life with the daily dramas of family and friends, in Kelly Reichardt’s vibrant and captivatingly funny portrait of art and craft. Previously unreleased in the Netherlands, we’re happy to offer this kind-hearted gem of a film with you finally.

LAB Classics: The Straight Story (4K Restoration)

David Lynch offers an uncharacteristically straightforward and warmly sentimental approach to his material in this film, based on a true story, about an elderly man’s journey to reconcile with his brother. The Straight Story returns to our cinema in a new 4K restoration, celebrating its 25th anniversary.

LAB Classics: Spoorloos (4K Restoration)

Our favorite Dutch film ever made, and “the most terrifying film” Stanley Kubrick had ever seen, Spoorloos has been restored in a stunning 4K restoration which will hit our cinema this June with English subtitles!

Straight To Video XL: Killer Klowns From Outer Space incl. pre-show

LAB111 presenteert iedere maand het ultieme video-avondje: Straight to Video. Krankzinnige cultfilms uit de gloriedagen van het videotheektijdperk met glitches, trailers, bloed en bier!

Queer Amsterdam 2024

Queer Amsterdam will again bring an exciting film program, from July 8-14. This program will show the highlights recent LGBTi and queer film with a social focus, addressing underrepresented voices and themes.

Schmutz Cinema 6 – Kentucky Fried Ficken

Schmutz Cinema is serving steamy, queer erotic arthouse. Each programme features a variety of bodies, gender identities, and sexual preferences, and it is displayed on a smorgasbord of cinematographic creativity.

Second Chance Cinema: Mad Max: Fury Road

A chronicle of societal and environmental collapse, the Mad Max series plays with genre codes to question these themes and was initially visionary and now cruelly topical. With the latest installment in this epic saga, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, still screening at our cinema, we’re giving you a shot and (re)visiting the action-packed thrill ride that was the film preceding Furiosa, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Kaboom Cult: Beavis & Butt-Head Do America

In our new collaboration with Kaboom Animation Festival, we present rarely-seen animation classics on the big screen, from recently restored cult titles to seldomly-screened festival hits. Animation belongs on the big screen and what better place to present it than at LAB111, where Kaboom has its offices? So grab a drink and come watch great animation with us!

Club Imagine

A new edition of Club Imagine is coming up from Friday, June 21st, to Sunday, June 23rd. A mix of previews, one-offs, and classics, this edition of the off-season weekender by Imagine Film Festival offers 6 titles, taking both fan and newcomer alike from one corner of the fantastic spectrum to the other.

Early Previews: Kinds Of Kindness

After his Frankensteinian carnival of oddness Poor Things, the Greek master of absurdism Yorgos Lanthimos is back with another star-studded yarn about how the universe keeps on doing the same awful things. Kinds Of Kindness hits our cinema on July 4th with early previews in the weeks preceding its release.

LAB Classics: Moving (4K Restoration)

Since its premiere at Cannes in Un Certain Regard in 1993, Moving has been one Shinji Somai’s most beloved films. With the release of this 4K restoration – named Best Restoration at the Venice Film Festival – this lauded classic can be seen in the Netherlands for the first time.

International Cinema: Only The River Flows

We continue with our series of International Cinema – where we offer the best foreign movies with English subtitles. Imagine the gleaming surfaces of Park Chan-wook’s terrific Decision To Leave stripped of romance, all scuzzed-up and grimy. You are now somewhere in the seamy offbeat world of Only The River Flows, director Wei Shujun‘s inventive riff on Asian-noir that gives the expanding subgenre something its Chinese contributions often lack: a pitch-black sense of humor.

International Cinema: Skunk

We continue with our series of International Cinema – where we offer the best foreign movies with English subtitles. Director Koen Mortier’s raw film Skunk gives a penetrating look at the impact of childhood traumas on young lives and the issues, but also the hard work in youth psychiatry with limited resources. The film – based on the book by a Flemish youth worker – received rave reviews in Belgium and has already won two awards.

LAB Classics: Trainspotting (4K Restoration)

Danny Boyle’s supercharged 1996 story of drugs, violence and growing up returns to our cinema. Among the most popular, ground-breaking, and influential films of the ‘90s, Trainspotting is back in brand-new 4K restoration – supervised by director Danny Boyle.

Hit The Road: The Summer Of Road Movies

This Summer we hit the road and explore the highways and byways of life with our largest thematic season to date!
