FEMALE FRAME: BREAKING THE CELLULOID CEILING
Starting on March 8th (International Women’s Day), we continue our Female Frame series on the representation of women in film with an inspiring selection of four recent films by female directors and about female characters from the past ten years. Female Frame celebrates a far too often overlooked archive of highly influential cinema.
On International Women’s Day, the world focuses on gender inequality. The film industry faces gender inequalities ubiquitously as well; the celluloid ceiling still largely determines women’s positions in the industry. Both female directors and leading actresses are structurally underrepresented. A pervasive excuse is the supposed lack of talented female directors. With Female Frame we are proving the sceptics wrong.
